“Is there no Hope? There is, and she will funk you up!” — Relix Magazine
Memphis-based soul-jazz-funk saxophonist and vocalist Hope Clayburn is on a mission to move the people. Inspired by legends like Maceo Parker and Bobbi Humphrey, her dynamic saxophone and flute playing blend seamlessly with powerful soul-rock vocals influenced by Aretha Franklin, Prince, and Tina Turner.
Her distinctive style has taken her around the world, performing with The Temptations, The Allman Brothers Band, and Snarky Puppy. She has also appeared on PBS’s Sun Studio Sessions and Austin City Limits with Grammy-nominated artist Valerie June.
A versatile performer, arranger, and musical leader, Hope serves as Music Director for Legends Reimagined, helping transform iconic songs from the ’60s through the ’90s with a fresh Memphis sound. She also records and performs with a wide range of artists and ensembles, including Lucky 7 Brass Band, Almost Elton John, Memphis Soul Remedy, and Marcella Simien.
Hope leads her own ensemble, Hope Clayburn’s Soul Scrimmage, whose latest album, Y’ALL SO LOUD!, is available on all streaming platforms and at Memphis record shops. You can also catch her most Thursday nights at B.B. King’s Blues Club with Grammy-nominated Ashton Riker & The Memphis Royals.
