Kevin began singing in church at a very early age. Encouraged by his mother and father, he soon began playing several different musical instruments and writing his own gospel songs. At the age of 22, he wrote his first commercially successful song entitled "Some Things Never Change". The song was published by Eddie Crook and was the title cut on an album by The Wilburns, in fact, Jonathan Wilburn has re-recorded the song and continues to sing it today.
In 1994, Kevin formed a southern gospel group called Kevin Wright and Living Proof. The group consisted of vocalists Lee Cook and Cindy Gibbs with musicians Bill Carson, Alex Carson, and Jim Howard. They recorded their first Nashville album on the Zion record label with Kevin McManus as producer. This album featured 10 songs written by Kevin. Some familiar titles are, THIS ARMY KEEPS MARCHING ON (recorded by The Williamsons), ONE DROP OF BLOOD (recorded by MaDonna McFall Massey), THE POTTER'S HOUSE (recorded by Vern Jackson), I'D DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN (recorded by Right Road Quartet), and SHOULDER TO SHOULDER. This album was followed by a LIVE recording of a performance at the group's home church in Lepanto, Arkansas. The LIVE recording included 16 songs written by Kevin and 1 song written by Lee Cook. The album featured the songs FROM HEAVEN'S POINT OF VIEW (recorded by The McGruders and also Jesse Dixon on the Gaither recording, Christmas in South Africa) and Only God Knows (recorded by Scotty Inman and Triumphant Quartet).
Kevin Wright and Living Proof disbanded for a while, but recently reunited to finish what God started years ago. Kevin now has a new solo project titled "Warriors Don't Run" with 13 original songs. Kevin Wright and Living Proof will be back in the studio soon working on a new recording. The current group consists of Lee Cook, Cherye Cook and Kevin Wright as vocalists. Benji Marshall on keyboard. Zach Gray and Levi Cook on drums and bass guitar.
